If you bought tickets from the counter and now want to cancel the ticket for some reason then you do not need to go back to the ticket counter. Rather you can do this work with your phone. For this, click on this link https://www.operations.irctc.co.in/ctcan/SystemTktCanLogin.jsf   

Here you can insert captcha with your PNR number, train number. Select the checkbox and press the subset button. OTP will be sent to the mobile number given during the counter booking as soon as the subset button is pressed. Enter the received OTP and click on the subset. 

After the OTP validation, the PNR details will appear on the screen. After checking the details, click 'Cancel Ticket' for the full cancellation. Refund amount will appear on the screen. An SMS will be sent with PNR and Refund Details. 

It will be written in "Your PNR xxxxxxxxxx has been canceled. Take xxxxx from the nearest railway station or from where the journey started." Notice that do not forget to take your original ticket during this period, because it will be refunded only after showing your ticket at the counter.  If the ticket is confirmed then you can get the refund by canceling the ticket until 4 hours before the journey. If there is a waiting ticket, you can get refund by canceling 30 minutes in advance.
