Randhir Kapoor has revealed another interesting incident related to The Showman of Indian Cinema Raj Kapoor. He was speaking at a panel discussion held during Raj Kapoor Excellence Award in Entertainment.
Randhir Kapoor, son of Raj Kapoor told that Raj Kapoor did not ever visit China despite invitations from them. The reason behind this was quite thoughtful. Raj Kapoor had never visited the country prior to the invitation. People from China had seen him in films and never in person. Now, he got the invitation in a later part of his life when he had gained weight. He did not want to disappoint his fans there with a look they had never seen Raj Kapoor in.
“One day, he called me and said he got an invite to visit China because his films are very popular there and we all are going to China! He was very excited and so were we. While we were making arrangements, two days later he called me and said, ‘I am thinking, let’s not go to China’.
He said, ‘They are in love with the Raj Kapoor of Awaara, Shree 420 and look at my size now! I don’t look like that anymore,” Randhir Kapoor told.
Intrestingly, it was Raj Kapoor who brought cinema to China and he could never visit it.
