New Delhi: To maintain the dignity of Constitution the Election Commission of India on Saturday issued a notice to leading Congress leader from Rajasthan CP Joshi for his casteist statements.  Reports suggested that Joshi will have to file a reply by Sunday evening. Worth mention here The notice was given a day after the BJP filed a complaint with the Election Commission. The Rajasthan Assembly Elections 2018 is going to take place on December 7.

However Joshi had on Friday apologised for his casteist remarks after Congress President  Rahul Gandhi disapproved of his comments and asked him to express apologize for. The BJP had, however, dismissed Joshi's apology, saying the comments "insulted" the Indian ethnicity and the Hindu religious conviction.

It is noted that while addressing an election meeting in poll-bound Rajasthan on Thursday, Joshi had said Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP MP Uma Bharti and Hindu activist Sadhvi Ritambhara belonged to "lower castes" and have no idea of Hinduism. He had also added that it is the Brahmins who are learned and know of Hinduism.

"The comments made by the Congress leader (Joshi) based on caste, section and religion in an election rally are a violation of the model code of conduct. So, a complaint has been lodged with the Election Commission," BJP Rajasthan election cell convener, Nahar Singh Maheshwari, had stated in a statement in Jaipur on Friday ahead of assembly polls.
