Rajiv Mehrishi took over as the Comptroller and Auditor General of India. Rajiv Mehrishi will succeed Shashi Kant Sharma, who was demitted office on Friday. The oath as Comptroller and Auditor General of Rajiv Mehrishi administered by President Ram Nath Kovind and the ceremony took place in Rashtrapati Bhavan.

The function was attended by Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi among other dignitaries. Rajiv Mehrishi is a retired Indian Administrative Service office of Rajasthan Cadre, who also completed his two-years fixed term as the home secretary last month. 

As a CAG Rajiv Mehrishi will have a tenure of about three years.The new CAG of India holds Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow (UK). He also possesses Master of Arts (MA) and Bachelor of Arts (BA) degrees from Delhi University. 

Prior to this Rajiv Mehrishi worked in the several posts in both state cadre Rajasthan as well as in center too along with this he also worked as a secretary in departments of chemicals and fertilizers and in Overseas Indian banks. 

About CAG-
It is the primarily entrusted with the responsibility of auditing the accounts of the Union government and of the state governments. CAG reports are laid before Parliament and legislatures of the states.
