Ram Navami is the ninth and last day of Chaitra Navratri, observed in the month of the spring season. It glorifies the arrival of Vishnu's 7th avatar, god Rama. It is marked by the devotees with devotional worship such as bhajan and kirtan, by fasting and reading passages about Lord Rama's life.

While the festival is named after Rama, the festival typically includes respect for Sita, Lakshmana and Hanuman gave their importance in Rama's story. Some Vaishnava Hindus celebrate the festival in Hindu temples, some commemorate it within their homes. Surya, the Hindu sun god, is a part of the worship and ceremonies in many communities.

Many people believe that by fasting during eight prahar further enhances the outcome. Devotees should observe the fast from sunrise to sunrise. The three different ways to perform Rama Navami vrat or fast can be stated as:

1. Casual –It is observed with the intention of no such significance gain. Just to pay the gratitude to the gratitude. It is not necessary to perform this vrat regular. 

2. Continual – Devotees observes this vrat throughout life without any desire 

3. Desirable – This vrat observed with an intention to fulfil one specific desire. People seek the blessing of Lord Rama to have a happy and content life and in order to get that they observe this vrat.
