Ranam Tragedy: Bengaluru police arrested assistant director main accused absconding

Bengaluru: The alleged negligence from film crew of Chiranjeevi Sarja and Chetan Ahimsa-starrer Ranam that led to the death of eight-year-old Ayra and her mother, 29-year-old Sumera, has prompted Bagalur Police to obtain an arrest warrant against film director V Samudra, producer Kanakapura Srinivas, stunt director Vijay and crew member Kiran. Following the incident, the crew fled from the scene leaving the dead and injured unattended. The accused identified as Shubash were absconding fearing arrest.

The police received a tip that Subash was hiding in his Kengeri residence and was arrested on Monday. Police stated that it was Subash who was tasked with rigging the stunt and he was the one who assembled the multiple compressor cannons under the SUV for the scene. The main accused Vijayan who was expected to be caught by police at the airport managed to escape to Chennai by road.

Meanwhile, president of the Kannada Film Chamber of Commerce Chinne Gowda said that he visited the injured at the hospital and extended financial help. The victims, who are residents of Bagalur, hailed from Kolar and planned to visit their native soon. Sumera’s elder daughter Zaina who was injured is now in stable condition. Gowda also said, “He will also speak to the government of Karnataka to help the victims once the code of conduct is lifted, and will call a meeting with all the producers, directors and technicians to agree on ensuring the cast and crew before the start of a particular project."
