Robert Vadra granted bail by ED, can’t fly abroad

New Delhi: On Monday, Enforcement Directorate, Special CBI court in Delhi granted bail to Robert Vadra in the money laundering case. The probe agency had wanted a custodial interrogation of Vadra in the case being probed against him pertaining to his alleged overseas property in London.. However, their plea was dismissed.  Congress chief Rahul Gandhi’s brother-in-law and businessman Robert Vadra was given conditional bail but Special Arvind Kumar said that Vadra cannot leave the country without permission. Vadra was also asked to furnish a personal bond of Rs 5 lakhs and a surety of the same amount. Meanwhile, the Enforcement Directorate plans to move the High Court against the trial court's verdict in the case, sources said.

Here it is to be noted that Vadra's close aide Manoj Arora was also granted bail in the case by the court, with the same bail conditions applicable for him. Both Vadra and Arora were out on interim bail presently. The court has also asked both the accused to join the investigation when called and that they should not be involved with tampering of any evidence of influencing any witness.

Vadra's counsel Abhishek Manu Singhvi told reporters on Monday "Very happy and proud that justice has prevailed. The legal system has emerged victorious,". Speaking to reporters, Vadra's lawyer KTS Tulsi also said, "The government found nothing after 58 hours of interrogation. I would like to say that whenever an honest citizen is persecuted, the only hope of a person is judiciary." Vadra has been accused of laundering money in the purchase of a London-based property at 12, Bryanston Square, which is worth 1.9 million pounds.
