Rohingya are not refugees, nor have they taken asylum… are  illegal immigrants

The United Nations says more than 4, 20,000 Rohingya have run away for safety to Bangladesh in the countenance of an army campaign that includes the burning of villages and rape.

Addressing a seminar organised by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Mr. Singh asked why some people were pointing to the deportation of Rohingyas when Myanmar was ready to allow them.

“The Rohingyas are not refugees. They have not come here after following appropriate procedures. No Rohingya has applied for asylum. They are illegal immigrants,” he said.

The home minister also said that India would not infringe any international law by deporting Rohingyas as it was not a signatory to the UN Refugees Convention 1951.

The NHRC just issued a notice to the Centre over its plan to deport Rohingyas, who are residing in a  wide range of parts of India.

According to the Commission, from the human rights angle its “intervention is appropriate” in the matter Rohingya's immigration.
