SBI Chairman Rajnish Kumar assures "Cash crunch will be resolved by tomorrow"

NEW DELHI: As the shortage of currency notes in a number of cities of the country has been facing by people, SBI Chairman Rajnish Kumar on Thursday assured that problem of currency crunch will be resolved by tomorrow.

He said that quick measures to provide currency are being taken and as soon as possible the states facing the shortage of notes will get sufficient amount of currency in ATMs.

On Wednesday it was reported that I-T department along with senior tax authorities conducted 30-35 raids in poll-bound state Karnataka and parts of Andhra Pradesh as part of a compelling to pull out cash hoarders, even as the Govt and RBI were pumping in funds.

According to reports of TOI in Bihar, for instance, Rs 800-900 crore has been pumped in through the ATM network with initial assessments suggesting that the shortage may be dealt soon.

But the dilemma is observed to be more deep-rooted in Andhra and Telangana, where the part of large contractors is under the I-T department’s lens.

On Tuesday, S C Garg, Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs had asserted that government has taken steps to ramp up the imprint of Rs 500 currency notes by five times.
