New Delhi: The Supreme Court will on Friday hear two separate pleas lodged before it against the allegedly absconding gems-diamond jeweller Nirav Modi caught up in the Rs 11,800 crore Punjab National Bank swindle.

One petition hunts for SC’s direction to the Centre to start the process of Nirav Modi’s deportation, as soon as possible, within two months, and the other petition seeks a SIT investigation into the case.

Nirav Modi and Gitanjali Gems Chairman and Managing Director Mehul Choksi, who are the prime accused in the Rs 11,000 crore Punjab National Bank scam left India in January 2018.

During the press meet The Ministry of External Affairs on Thursday said that it has well-known contact with the allegedly 'absconding' diamond jeweler Nirav Modi and that soon further action will be taken in opposition to him.

Addressing in the Press conference to reporters, MEA media representative Raveesh Kumar stated that there are certain legal processes which need to be completed on time.

The ED on Wednesday stated it has sealed mutual funds and shares worth Rs 94.52 crore of the Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi groups in links with the money laundering investigation against them in the Rs 11,400-crore scam.

It had also frozen nine high-end luxury cars of Modi as part of its inquiry against him under the criminal provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
