The results of last week's New Zealand Open can flourish the chances of Indian shuttlers to come up in the upcoming world rankings. The list is going to be released on this Thursday, that is on May 10, 2018. Being the first title of the year, two-time Olympic champion Lin Dan won the tournament. This winning has hauled him up at the eight, which in turn pushed the currently eight -ranked HS Prannoy down.

After clinching a bronze medal last week from the Asian Championships, the Kerala shuttler achieved his career-high ranking. The shuttler will be next seen in action at the Thomas Cup to be held in Bangkok from this May 20.

Both, Sai Praneeth and Sameer Verma, who played at the Auckland Super 300 event, are set to rise in this week’s world rankings. Sai was the best performing Indian and his run came to an end in the semi-finals when he lost to eventual runner-up Jonatan Christie. Because of that performance, Sai will now climb one spot higher to 17th. Whereas Sameer Verma lost a round earlier, in the quarter-finals, to the eventual champion Lin Dan. The Swiss Open titlist will, therefore, surge one place to 25th.
