It is believed that neurons or nerve cells do not divide. Well, they do degenerate. You would be glad to knowthat the Researchers at Lund University in Sweden have come up with a new method to generate astrocytes.

It has been informed that astrocytes play an important role in neurodegenerative diseases.Earlier methods aimed at the same, used to take months while this new method that has been discovered takes just few weeks.

This has definitely made the work of scientists quite easier than it was before to study the role played by these astrocytes in causing diseases and their other functions.

You should be informed that the destruction of these glial cells could cause severe diseases like dementia and ALS.

The previous methods involved the production of astrocytes from stem cells. But these methods demanded a lot of time. Well, the new method that has been discovered  by the scientists has been able to render the cells in a much lesser amount of time.

It was informed that the astrocytes that were produced using the embryonic stem cells, resembled the astrocytes of an adult human brain in a lot of ways.

The discovery may therefore open way for a lot more experiments that may prove to be successful.
