The sense of touch, a function of the largest organ of our body, is one of the many functions that work for our defence. As per the latest studies made regarding the same, it was revealed that the neural basis of the sense of touch is still being studied. However, it was postulated that magnetic stimulation of the prefrontal cortex of the brain affected the performance of the person in tactile tasks, and his or her potential to evaluate the performance in such tasks.

It has been explained that the sense of touch gives us an information regarding the textures of objects and all the forces that are acting on the body.  It was suggested that Tactile information is also required for the successful implementation of the activities that have to be carried out by the motor area of the brain. The tasks may involve grasping objects.

The research being carried out intends to derive the neural mechanism that coordonates the sense of touch. A better understanding of the mechanism would aid the doctors to diagonose and treat the diseasesrelating to  the failures in the tactile processing.

The researchers also studied metacognitive abilities of the subjects. Metacognition talks about the ability to check and control one’s own cognitive processes.

Further discovery in the same field could lead to a major improvement in the treatment of the disease.
