Scott Morrison has been chosen by the Liberal party room as Australia's 30th Prime Minister. The next prime minister of Australia is Scott Morrison and his deputy has selected Josh Frydenberg. Morrison defeated Peter Dutton for the Liberal leadership 45-40, according to the reports of The Guardian.

Morrison crushed Peter Dutton 45 votes to 40 in the secret ballot. Leadership contender Julie Bishop was knocked out in the first round.

The decision courted a week of uproar in Canberra that commenced after Dutton declared his intention to force Malcolm Turnbull from the prime minister ship, asserting the party needed to make a change if it was to win the next federal election, which is slated before May 18 next year.

Turnbull has become prime minister in 2015 following a fall against Tony Abbott. He stood aside on Friday after getting a petition from a majority of Liberal MPs demanding a ballot to pick a new leader. He had given indications that he will resign from Parliament, potentially forcing a byelection in his seat of Wentworth.
