According to the latest research conducted, it has been reported that the Proteins found in the semen tend to increase the spread of Ebola virus infection many folds.

The University of Pennsylvania, allegedly conducted a study on the protein fragments, called amyloid fibrils which are prominently found in the human semen reportedly increase Ebola virus infection since they protect the virus against the unfavourable environmental conditions such as heat and dehydration.

However, Ebola is majorly transmitted through direct contact with blood and other bodily fluids like lymph from the infected person. According to the studies made in the year 2014 regarding this epidemic, it was found that men can host the Ebola virus in their semen for around two and a half years, and during this period have the ability to transfer this virus to a healthy person through a sexual contact.

According to a senior Author, Paul Bates, "Sexual transmission of the Ebola virus poses a significant public health concern, especially in light of the ongoing Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo."

The researches concluded that various types of amyloids have been found in the semen of men that increase the transmission and infection of various viruses like HIV since these viruses attach to the cell membrane of the host cells.
