New Delhi [India], November 10 (NT): A thick layer of smog sustained to overwhelm Delhi on Friday with some of the areas still gripped in the risky sort of air quality index.

Due to smog the pollution level in Punjabi Bagh at 802, Mandir Marg at 515, Anand Vihar at 571 and Dwarka at 420 fall under the dangerous sort.

In the early hours of today as fire and smoke were also seen catch the wind from the site.

In the wake of the high-ceilinged pollution level in the city, the Health Ministry on Wednesday issued pollution advisory, urging citizens to drink plenty of water and keep away from areas with smoke or heavy dust.

As per the sources, the odd-even car rationing system will be implemented in the Delhi from November 13 to 17.

The decision has been taken in view of the current air pollution in Delhi and parts of North India.

All schools in the Delhi will remain closed till Saturday.

The Delhi Metro will also augment the frequency of trains to push people to use the public transport.

The city's air quality goes downhill ahead of winter as cooler air traps pollutants near the ground, preventing them from dispersing into the atmosphere.
