Shuttler Sourabh Verma made India international proud at international level by winning Russian open badminton. Former national champion defeated Koki Watanabe in the summit clash to claim his first title of the season. This 25 years old Indian played very brilliantly against Japan’s Watanabe 19-21,21-12,21-17 in the game of exactly 1 hour in the final match.

The match was quite interesting, both the players gave tough competitions to each other. The Japanese player made his grab on the match from starting but Verma led to fightback to narrow the gap to 11-12 but Japanese player again jumped in to gain the lead of 18-13. In the second game, Sourabh held an 11-6 advantage at the break. Sourabh has shown a very brilliant game and converted his efforts into victory.

Verma had won the All India senior ranking tournament in Bangalore to take place in Asian Game squad. He was runner-up at the Bitburger open which was held in 2016.

On the other hand, Indian mixed pair of Rohan Kapoor and Kuhoo Garg suffered a loss to Russia’s Vladimir Ivanov and Min Kyung Kim of Korea in the finals 19-21,17-21. The duo ends up settling for runners-up finish.
