South Africa decided to give rest to their main spinner Imran Tahir from the five-match one-day series against Sri Lanka next month. Cricket South Africa has taken this decision in the wake of the ICC Cricket World Cup preparations next year.

The selectors have included Left-arm spinner Tabrez Shamsi and Keshav Maharaj in the team. South Africa Cricket selector Linda Jondy said that we have taken the decision to rest Tahir as a strategy so that we can give one of these two spinners to the team for the World Cup next year.

Imran is our first choice as a spinner, but we will also need a second spinner in the World Cup. South Africa has also added two new faces along with this team. Both Jr. Della and Rhea Hendrix have been part of South Africa's Twenty-20 team. The one-day series against Sri Lanka will last from July 29 to August 12.

It is surprising that Tahir has been given rest for now. Tahir might be seen in matches for Guyana Amazon Warriors in the CPL that can clash with the fourth and fifth ODI in Sri Lanka. However, Tahir is not the only South African player who is not taking part in the tournament as there are other players with him too.
