CWG 2018, day 10: Sumit Malik clinches gold in wrestling

On Saturday, after a successful day on the wrestling mat with a gold, two silver and a bronze medal, Indian wrestlers will be back in action on penultimate day of the Games in Gold Coast. Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat in Women’s Frestyle and Somveer and Sumit in Men’s Freestyle will be wrestling for more medals for India. Malik and Phogat will be India’s biggest gold medal hopes as they look the strong wrestlers in their category of 62kg and 50kg respectively. In the Men’s Freestyle, Somveer will wrestle in 86kg while Sumit will be in 125kg. So far, India have three gold, three silvers and two bronze medals at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast.  

Sumit defeated Pakistan's Tayab Raza 10-4 in a dramatic bout. It turned out to be an pulsating contest as Sumit was leading early on but Raza came back to reduce the deficit to 2-3 after attacking the Indian's legs. However, Sumit didn't allow his rival to dominate as he displayed incredible athleticism, hopping around the mat to avoid stepping outside the bound after Raza once again had grabbed his leg.

Sumit Malik win the gold medal in 125 Kg Freestyles. Another walkover for the gold medallist Sumit Malik in the competition as Sinivie Boltic was Injured earlier. Comes on for the formalities and the referee lifts his arm. Sumit goes on to fly the flag over his shoulders and takes in the applause.
