Supreme Court judge Jasti Chelameswar to demit office on Friday

NEW DELHI: The senior-most judge of the Supreme Court, Justice Jasti Chelameswar, who grabbed the headlines when he led three senior judges for a first-time press conference in history against Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra, will resign from office on Friday after a nearly seven-year term in the Apex court.

On a related note the unprecedented three judges’ conference mounting a virtual riot in apex court.

Along with Justice Chelameswar, justices Ranjan Gogoi, M B Lokur and Kurian Joseph had raised questions on "selective" distribution of cases, including the sensitive case of special CBI judge B H Loya, who passed away on December 1, 2014.

The January 12 press meets was the first in the times past of the Supreme Court, had sent angry waves in the court's corridors and caught the country by shock.

In assertive statements, Justice Chelameswar had stated that many things that are less than desirable happened in the last few months.

Justice Chelameswar, who is going to turn 65 on 23 June 2018, was part of the nine-judge bench that gave the historic judgment declaring right to privacy a fundamental right.

He was promoted as chief justice of the Gauhati High Court on May 3, 2007 and afterward was transferred to the Kerala High Court.

He took charge as the chief justice of Kerala High Court on March 17, 2010 while was elevated as a judge to the Supreme Court on October 10, 2011.
