Supreme Court takes up Kathua rape-murder case

NEW DELHI: Follwing the gangrape and murder of an eight-year-old girl in Kashmir, the Supreme Court today said it will examine the horrific Kathua rape incident. It also asked to present the facts of the case to the court in writing.

The apex court wants it mentioned in writing that lawyers in Kathua, Jammu and Kashmir, troubled to put off the filing of a charge sheet against the rape accused.

The SC also wishes that it mentioned that these lawyers threatened those representing the family of the eight-year-old who was raped.

SC said it would take up Kathua rape incident case provided the advocates placed facts in writing about the protest by lawyers to prevent the filing of charge sheet in the case and intimidating counsel for the rape survivor.

In Delhi, a group of lawyers who practice in the top court urged a bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud to take suo moto cognisance of the horrific incident. The lawyers said they would collect the facts of the case in writing for the SC.

 Worth mentioning here in Kashmir on Monday, a group of furious lawyers from one community prevented the crime branch of Jammu and Kashmir police from filing a charge sheet against the seven accused men of the rape and murder of eight-year-old girl Asifa in Kathua district.
