New Delhi: The Supreme Court of India on Friday will pronounce its judgment in the Sabarimala case which prohibits an entry for women aged between 10 and 50 inside the temple complex in Kerala.

A five-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra had reserved its order in the case in August on pleas. These clutch of pleas challenged the age-old practice pertains an entry of women to the Lord Ayyappa temple. A month earlier, the top court had said a woman has as much right to go into any temple as a man. There is no law of private temple in the nation. It added that Temple is not a private property, it is a public property. In such a case, if a person is permitted to enter the public property, then the woman should also be acceptable to enter. CJI Misra had said that once you open the temple, then anyone can go to it.

Mean while Justice DV Chandrachud had also tinted that a woman cannot be blocked entry simply because of their gender.

While women have mostly been demanding the elimination of the ancient rule that bans their entry into the temple, the Travancore Devaswom Board has said that tradition and customs cannot be busted.
