Haridwar: Swami Gyan Swaroop Sanand (Professor GD Agarwal) who was on fast-unto- death to save river Ganga Passed away on Thursday at AIIMS Rishikesh.

According to News agency ANI, GD Agarwal, who was on an indefinite fast in Haridwar since June 22 in a bid to urge the govt to clean river Ganga, passed away in AIIMS Rishikesh today due to a heart attack.

The 87-year-old IItain turned seer Ganga activist GD Agarwal was on indefinite fast for ban on mining and hydropower projects to save Ganga since June 22 demanding a ban on mining and hydropower projects in Ganga.Police forcefully admitted him to hospital but at last he died today due to heart attack.

G. D. Agrawal alias Swami Gyan Swaroop Sanand was an prominant figure in the field of environmental engineers in India. He served as the faculty member of IIT-Kanpur, a member of the Indian Central Pollution Control Board to currently being a Sanyaasi. Agrawal was on a fast-unto-death since 22nd June demanding Modi government to act on its promises to save river Ganga.
