TMC moves Privilege Motion over Detention of 6 MPs:NRC row rocks in parliament

New Delhi (India) August 3 (NT): TMC (Trainmool Congress) moved Privilege Motion over Detention of its MPs at Silchar Airport today during the discuusion of NRC issue in the monsoon parliament session.

MC's Kalyan Banerjee spoke in Lok Sabha on Silchar Detention and criticized PM Modi led Center as saying MPs were going to Silchar to access the issue. He alleged that one of the Mps Mamata Thakur was man handled and All Trinamool Congress leaders were harassed by police and every news channel aired the video.

He asserted that every individual has a right to go anywhere in India. He demanded a statement from home minister Rajnath Singh.  He wants that there should have been an action. He further said that not a single court or the Supreme Court had said that we cannot hold discussions in Assam after the National Register of Citizens (NRC).

West Bengal Municipal Affairs and Urban Development Minister, who led the six-member delegation to Silchar yesterday, said that Trinamool Congress will go to Assam again after speaking to party leader and CM Mamata Banerjee. He further said that TMC may consider taking the legal route to oppose the National Register of Citizens (NRC).

Today the publication of draft National Registry of Citizens continued to stun Parliament with the Trinamool Congress protesting the detention of its 6-delegation members in Assam’s Silchar . The disturbance forced the Speaker to adjourn the Lok Sabha, which will resume at 11:50am.

Meanwhile in the Rajya Sabha, Home Minister Rajnath Singh sought to pacify tensions, denying unfairness in the whole process.  Rajnath Singh said the NRC draft which was published on July 30, was not the final one and added that the government would not take coercive action against whose name are not in the list.
