On Thursday, India's Tejaswini Sawant won a silver medal in the women's 50m Rifle Prone after shooting a total of 618.9 points at the Commonwealth Games. India hold 12 gold medals, 5 silver medals and 8 bronze medals total of 25 medals.Competing in her third Commonwealth Games, Sawant added a sixth medal to her bag after having previously won gold in 10m air rifle and 10m air rifle (pairs) in Melbourne in 2006 and a silver and two bronze medals in 50m rifle prone, 50m rifle 3 positions and 50m rifle prone (pairs) respectively in New Delhi in 2010.

Former world champion Tejaswini Sawant delivered her best under pressure and returned to the Commonwealth Games podium with a silver medal in the 50m rifle prone with a score of 618.9. The Kolhapur-born 37-year-old had an excellent run but the best of her six scores came in the final series when she shot 104.6 to edge Seonaid McIntosh (Scotland) to bronze medal position by a margin of just 0.8 points.

With this win, she further became the first Indian woman to medal twice in this event at the Commonwealth Games. The only other Indian to win a medal in this event was Roopa Unnikrishnan, who won Gold in 1998 in Kuala Lumpur. 37-year old Tejaswini, born in Kolhapur, had earlier equalled the world record (EWR) after winning gold in the Munich World Championships in 2010 in the 50m rifle prone. She had also won bronze in the 50m rifle 3 postions in the ISSF World Cup held in Munich in 2009. Anjum Moudgil, the other Indian in the fray, finished 16th, shooting a combined 602.2 in six rounds.
