NEW DELHI: On the ninth day of the 2018 Commonwealth Games India’s medal rush has continued with shooter Tejaswini Sawant as she clinched gold in the women’s 50m rifle 3 position finals. She followed by Anjum Moudgil with silver.

Including Sawant’s gold, India has settled the 15 gold medals. Worth mentioning here India matched the record of winning gold with four years ago CWG 2014 at the Glasgow.

37-year-old Sawant had entered the eight-member women’s 50m rifle 3 positions after finishing third in qualification with a total of 582-31x. On the other hand, the 24-year-old Moudgil had topped it with a qualifying record total of 589-32x. Scotland’s Seonaid McIntosh took bronze with a total score of 444.6.

President Kovind took Twitter to greeted the Indian shooters and said, “Delighted to know that Tejaswini Sawant & Anjum Moudgil have won GOLD & SILVER respectively in Women's 50m Rifle 3 Positions   #GC2018Shooting #GC2018”, President Kovind Tweeted.

In the finals, Moudgil continued in contention for a medal with sturdy series of shots, and as the competition was cut away her scores ensured she was in line for gold with compatriot Sawant. She finished second to Sawant with a combined score of 455.7 for her maiden CWG medal.

In March, Moudgil had clinched her first silver medal in International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup 2018 .
