The very popular, Nilgiris Mountain Railway (NMR), is all set to win the hearts of the tourists with its all-new project called the 'Coachteria'.
The 'Coachteria' is being speculated to be a theme-based restaurant, which shall be constructed in the Udhagamandalam station of Ooty, which is at a distance of 90km from Coimbatore.
A major fact about the train is that it is the same train which was used during the shoot of the very popular song of all times, 'Chhaiya Chhaiya'.
-Southern Railway also planned to offer chartered services
The train service has been rewarded with the World Heritage Status by UNESCO. The train runs between the beautiful valleys of Ooty.
The Southern Railway have also offered the interested corporates and tour operators, to provide chartered services by a coal-fired steam locomotive hauled train which would run between Mettupalayam and Coonoor.
The tourism ministry is also aiming to set up catering stalls in the Udhagamandalam and Hillgrove stations. The Southern railways have also planned to upgrade the trains.
In Tiruchirappalli, the Golden Rock Workshop recently upgraded the NMR-87 at the expense of Rs. 1.8 lakhs, which is a 25-year old coach. The coach has now been transformed to have world-class facilities and provide the tourists with a never to be forgotten experience.
