Lombok [Indonesia], August 6 (NT): The death toll in Sunday's earthquake of magnitude 6.9 that shaked two islands of Indonesia has risen to 82.

The dominant earthquake and strong aftershocks jolted Bali and Lombok island of Indonesia, causing thousands of natives to rush out of their homes and take outdoor shelters, as CNN reported.

The earthquake was 31 kilometers (19 miles) deep and near Loloan on the north end of Lombok. There was earlier brief tsunami warning was triggered but now it was cancelled. A tsunami warning was issued after waves just 6 inches high were recorded in three villages, said Dwikorita Karnawati, the head of Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency.

The tremors of earthquake was also felt on Bali to the west.

A number of the victims killed in northern Lombok, informed Haji Rum, head of the West Nusa Tenggara Disaster Management Agency.

This natural disaster was the second powerful temblor on Lombok in a week. This earthquake hit the island in the evening after the sunset.

 Worth mention here a 6.4-magnitude earthquake jolted the island on July 29, in which more than a dozen lives of people had claimed.

All the landline and cell phone services have been reportedly down in  Tanjung town of Lombok, which is close to the epicenter. (NT)
