Prime Minister Narendra Modi fiercely attacked the previous UPA government for the plight of the banks and said that during the previous government, under pressure from the banks, the corporation was given a loan to select industrialists, which resulted in the crores of rupees of the banks stuck in debt.  He called it the biggest scandal in the UPA government's time.

PM Modi at 90th Annual General Meeting of the country's top industry body FICCI, said that the previous government has left the biggest 'liability' for the present government in the form of NPA. He also questioned the functioning of industrialists like FICCI for this situation.

The Prime Minister said "The money was given to industrialists by putting pressure on the banks. This has worsened the situation of the banks. Then FICCI did some study on this then what was the industry organization raising voice for? Everyone knew something was going wrong but did someone raise a voice?"

On this occasion, PM Modi counted his government's achievements. He said that his government is making policies by keeping the youth and current needs of the country in mind, while during the previous government hundreds of crores of rupees were handed over to selected industrialists. Commonwealth, 2G and coal scam happened. The public's hard earned money was looted. In all these scandals, the banks had a bad effect somewhere.

He called NPA "the biggest scam" of the previous government. The Prime Minister said that his government has taken steps to strengthen the banking sector. Banks are being provided new capital so that the interest of the country can be shared with the customers as well.
