Today Modi to campaign Nagaland, Meghalaya

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is to campaign for in Tuensang in Nagaland and in Phulbari in Meghalaya on thursday. This will be his second visit to the state since he came to power.

There are six assembly seats in Tuensang district in the eastern part of Nagaland. PM will take with him his govt's unique North East push.

BJP is in association with NDPP and some other local parties in the state. The state elections come after the signing of the historic Naga Framework Agreement.

Modi took his official twitter handle and said,”Will be travelling to the Northeast tomorrow. In the morning, will campaign in Tuensang, Nagaland. In the afternoon, will address a public meeting in Phulbari, Meghalaya”, PM tweeted.

In 2014 Modi was chief guest at the iconic Hornbill Music Festival in Kohima and was the first Prime Minister to visit the state in nearly a decade.

After Eight months on 3 August 2015, a historic Framework agreement was inked in presence of Indian Premier. The centre and the Naga group, the Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland (Isak-Muivah), inked an Agreement for a way out to the seven-decade-long Naga insurgency.

There has been a ceasefire in place between the NSCN(IM) and the Centre since 1997. But the Framework Agreement is the first concrete step towards a long-term solution.

Nagaland goes to polls on 27th of February.
