Doing Bhakti for most people means worshipping the gods, going to the temples, donating money there so as to get peace, health and wealth. It is more like a bargain -- ‘I have done 10 rounds of japa, now I am entitled to certain benefits’ or ‘I will donate a certain amount of gold to the temple if my daughter gets married this year’. In Kaliyuga, bhakti has come to be limited to flattering the gods, decorating their temples, adorning them with beautiful clothes and jewellery to show off your devotion.

Spend money on decorating the temples to show your sense bhakti to the Almighty is all fine, but do you spending the same amount of effort and money in decorating your workplace or your home too? If you are spending money only on doing up the temples, it means you are doing so to show others your opulence. Supreme is present everywhere, so why not clean and decorate everyplace you visit.

True bhakti is pure love; in it you don’t waste your time or effort on karm-kaand or ritual practices. It is reflected in two ways. Such is your love for Supreme that you merge with the Divine and your creativity bursts forth; you sing, dance, write and spread peace, bliss and joy to all. Meerabai, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, Guru Nanak, Kabir, Guru Ravidas were examples of such form of pure bhakti. It takes another form -- serving mankind -- God’s creation – selflessly. Offering others a smile, giving them love, teaching them something worthwhile so that they can lead a better life is also a form of pure bhakti. Gandhi ji practiced this kind of bhakti when he started working for the welfare of the ‘Harijans’. Sri Aurobindo expressed it by way to his writings – offering gyan to others.

True bhakti is the climax of most pious love.

Ram says, sau apkaar bhoolo aek bhi upkaar hai toh yaad rakho......gratitude and all the love and light....Pranam om om om
