New Delhi [India], Dec 28 (NT): The Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill 2017, which tries to find to criminalize the practice of triple talaq, has been tabled in the Lok Sabha in the winter Parliament session by Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Thursday.

‘This bill goes against fundamental rights & lacks legal coherence “ Asaduddin Owaisi further said in Lok Sabha on triple talaq Bill

Contrasting the bill over the criminalization of the Islamic practice, Owaisi said that the law will be biased to the Muslim woman and lead to the leaving behind of Muslim woman. 

“This bill is imperfect, there are many internal disagreements in the Bill” said BJD MP Bhartruhari Mahtab in Lok Sabha lauded over TripleTalaq Bill.

The draft of Triple Talaq bill asserts, "Any pronouncement of talaq by a person upon his wife, by words, either spoken or written or in electronic form or in any other manner whatsoever, shall be void and illegal".

There is also a provision of sentence for a term, which possibly can be extended to three years with a fine for violators. The draft bill also envisions giving the right to divorcee Muslim women for maintenance.

Apart from that It also has a provision for the divorced Muslim women to claim the custody of their minor children. As per the draft, the offenses under the purview of this bill will be cognizable and non-bailable.

This Bill shall extend to the entire of India excluding Jammu and Kashmir.
