Mumbai: On Wednesday, two women died after falling from the third floor of a building. Both the women's, allegedly sex workers, were trying to escape a police raid in Grant Raos area of South Mumbai, according to the officials.

The incident took place, around 10:30 pm on Tuesday evening. According to TOI, A team from the DB Police Marg station was patrolling the area where the Om Building was located. It is said to be the known area for prostitution activities.

As the police team arrived to conduct "checking", a person on the ground floor alerted others. Which in turn led to panic among sex workers who were on the upper floors, officials added. Two of the women sex workers tried to escape by climbing down from a third-floor window with the help of a rope, he further added. However, while climbing down, they slipped and fell.
 

Police took them to the government-run J J Hospital in Byculla where both died during treatment. While one of the women was 50 years old, the other was in her 30s. Both hailed from West Bengal, according to the reports. The DB Marg Police have registered a case of accidental death and further inquiry is underway.
