Uttar Pradesh: The government of Yogi Aditya Nath is considering framing the UPCOCA in conjunction with other stringent measures along the lines of the law in Maharashtra, known as MCOCA. Before UP, Gujarat has the same law passed by its legislature in April 2003 but is awaiting presidential approval.

According to the senior police officer, "chief minister Yogi Aditya Nath was intent on checking organised crime in the state and UPCOCA — first attempted by Mayawati when she was the CM — could be a major step in that direction.

The Yogi government is expected to introduce a bill in this regard and get it passed in both the Houses before seeking presidential assent." Police further added, "The government has tried in its four months to bring down crime by dealing strictly with hardcore criminals."
