UP LS by-polls: SP-BSP alliance is a hindrance in the progress of the nation, says Adityanath

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath congratulated the winning candidates of the Samajwadi Party (SP) in the Gorakhpur and Phulpur Lok Sabha by-polls.

Samajwadi Party’s Nagendra Pratap Singh Patel won in Phulpur while the SP’s Pravin Kumar Nishad was leading in Gorakhpur.
“We accept the verdict of the people, this result was unexpected. We will review the shortcomings. I congratulate the winning candidates,” said Adityanath.

Yogi Adityanath admitted that the result was unexpected and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was overconfident with the winning streak in several elections held at different levels. He added that the party will take the defeat positively, review the verdict and work on its shortcomings.

Adityanath, who was the former Member of Parliament from Gorakhpur constituency, opined that the SP-BSP coalition before the election was a ‘saudebaazi’ (negotiation) to hinder the progress of the nation. He said that BJP will form a strategy to overcome this.

Interestingly, Gorakhpur was considered a stronghold of the BJP as Adityanath had been consecutively winning as a Member of Parliament from the constituency from 1998 to 2017. He resigned as MP and assumed office as the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh after BJP’s victory in the UP state assembly elections in March 2017.
