Union Budget 2018: Economists suggest PM Modi ‘employment is key to to go to the fore’

While NITI Aayog claims to have recovered that statistics on lack of employment are exaggerated, there was a general agreement among all country's leading economists during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's interaction with them that employment generation was the means to go to the fore.

At an event held by the NITI Aayog ahead of the last Union Budget of Modi-led-Govt, in which over 40 economists exchanged their views on a variety of themes such as the macro-economy, agriculture, and rural development, employment, health and education, manufacturing and exports, urban development, infrastructure, transport and connectivity.

NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Rajiv Kumar addressed in the press meet after the economists-conference that employment was one of the major issue discussed for the duration of the pre-union-budget-conference.

A number of presentations were before the Prime Minister for the duration of the conference after which, he expressed thanks to all participants for their proposals and observations and assured them that the government will mull over on these issues.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley also expressed thanks to everyone for their “brain-storming-suggestions", as per government official statement said.
