Depression has been seeping into our society and becoming less seldom to us.

A lot of universities have been conducting studies regarding the same. As per the most recent study made on depression, it has been suggested that if a depression patient is treated with nerve stimulation, his/her quality of life can be actually improved.

At the Washington University School of Medicine, a study was conducted regarding the same and it was postulated that the nerve stimulation therapy could even be applied when depression is not in its initial state.

Most of the patients that the doctors came across were, on medication and were prescribed 3-4 different kinds of antidepressant pills for the same.

Well, when the vagus nerve stimulation was added to their medication, improvement in their lifestyles were quite evident.

Other therapies like antidepressant drugs, psychotherapy, transcranial magnetic stimulation, electroconvulsive therapy could not compete with the results offered by the vagus nerve stimulation.

It is believed that for patients to show improvement, their depression score needs to have gone down by 50%. But in the case of Vagus stimulation, the improvement was shown by patients whose score had just gone down by 30 to 40%.

The process includes the implantation of a vagus nerve stimulator, in the neck region or the chest.
