At the fourth Emmy Awards in 1952, the first trophy for Best Comedy Series was offered to “The Red Skelton Show.” Since then, a total of 33 diverse laffers have been awarded as television’s top comedy history, including the three-time reigning champ “Veep.”

Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Anna Chlumsky and Hugh Laurie have been nominated for their terrific roles on the hit comedy series. ... Showrunner Dave Mandel, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and the rest of the ‘Veep ‘cast dropped by to talk about the award-winning comedy and what’s to come in Season 6.

HBO’s “Veep” is the current winner, having prevailed between 2015-2017. The satirical adaptation of the British series “The Thick of It” centers on Selina Meyer (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), a narcissistic and hapless vice president and her turbulent political career. Louis-Dreyfus has won a record-setting six consecutive Emmys for Best Comedy Actress, with one season of “Veep” left to go.

“Modern Family” (2010-2014) and “Frasier” (1994-1998) hold the record for most wins in this category, with both earning five following wins. (No drama series has yet to accomplish that feat.) “Cheers” (1983-1984, 1989, 1991) and “All in the Family” (1971-1973, 1978) are subsequently in line with four success apiece.
