Ahmadabad (Gujarat) [India], Apr 21 (NT): One person was arrested on Saturday, in links with the rape and murder of a minor girl in Surat.

The person was arrested from Ahmedabad.

It is noted that the body of the minor girl to be in the age group of 9 to 11 years was found from a cricket ground in Bhestan area of Surat on April 6, with 86 injury marks.

After a five-hour-long post-mortem, it was revealed that the girl was raped and tortured for at least eight days, and was later strangled to death.

Ahmedabad police crime branch on Friday claimed arrested prime accused hails from Rajasthan. During preliminary probes, it was found that the girl and her widowed mother from Gangapur in Rajasthan had been bought by the accused for Rs 35,000 to be used them as bonded labourers.

The recovery of the girl’s body had 87 injury marks, including severe ones in her private parts, mete out by the sticklike object, sent tremor and triggered widespread annoyance across the country.

 Accused Harsayai Gurjar (35) was detained from Gangapur in Rajasthan’s Sawai Madhopur district, while three others, including Harsayai’s brother Harisinh, and two other brothers Naresh and Amarsinh Gurjar were arrested on Friday,  as crime branch officials said.

The police had registered a case of rape under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
