Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang died at 61: State media reports

HANOI: Vietnam President Tran Dai Quang, died on Friday, Sep 21 after an illness, as state television and radio announced.

Quang was 61 year old, passed away in a military hospital in Hanoi. He survived a serious illness despite efforts by domestic and international doctors and professors, as Vietnam Television reported.

While Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang died of sickness on Friday morning, said an official source from the central government.

Nguyen Quoc Trieu, chief of the healthcare division of central officials stated the president passed away at 10:05 a.m. at 108 Military Central Hospital in Hanoi.

As per a statement from the healthcare division, President Quang was in serious condition and has been treated from the medical team at home and abroad.

Quang was from Quang Thien community. He hailed from Kim Son District, Ninh Binh Province in northern Vietnam. He has done Ph.D in Law, and held the positions of Director General of Department of Security Advisory, Director General of Directorate of Security and Deputy Minister of Public Security.

He had become Vietnam's president on April 2, 2016. Graduated from the People's Police University and the School of Foreign Languages under the Ministry of Home Affairs, now the Ministry of Public Security, He was a member the Politburo- the decision-making body of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

He also served as Deputy Minister of Public Security from 2006 to August 2011, and Minister between August 2011 to March 2016.
