Mumbai: India captain Virat Kohli was rested for the upcoming Asia Cup 2018 on Saturday when selectors announced the team. The selectors named Rohit Sharma as captain of the 16-member squad for the tournament. This series is going to be held in United Arab Emirates. Worth mention here Rajasthan left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed is the only new face in the team.

Asia Cup is scheduled to kick off from September 15 in Dubai. India will play the first match of tournament against Bangladesh on that day.

Virat Kohli became the second fastest batsman from India to score 6000 Test runs on Friday during the ongoing fourth Test between India and England at the soil of Southampton. 

“There are two, three slots we are yet to see before we fix the final team for the World Cup and one of the slots is a seamer slot which is available. We are looking at a left-hander option in Khaleel Ahmed,” MSK Prasad, BCCI Chief Selector.
