After Nipah virus outbreak, West Nile Virus infection suspected in Kerala: Know the 4 symptoms of WNV

New Delhi: A young woman in Kerala's Kozhikode district is suspected to be down with West Nile Virus (WNV). After the Nipah virus horror, Now Government has challenge to prevent people this deadly virus. The victim of West Nile Virus has been hospitalized in the Government Medical College in Kozhikode. According to reports, the woman's blood sample was sent to the National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Pune for tests. When Reports came then it has confirmed a WNV infection.

But officials said such positive results are common with these kinds of infections so they will send  a second sample to the NIV for a reconfirmation.

"If there is a four-fold increase in the antibody count in the second sample, only then can we say it is a West Nile infection. Right now, we are not 100% sure. But it is a suspected case. The symptoms are the same as that of Japanese Encephalitis or Meningitis. The virus is spread through mosquitoes. Man is an accidental host,"  the Indian Express quoted Dr Jayasree V, district medical officer, as saying.

The patient belongs to Pavangad in the same district and is currently undergoing treatment at the medical college. As per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, patients infected with

-The virus mostly do not display any symptoms; however some may suffer from fever.

-Body aches, joint pain, headaches, vomiting and diarrhea also occurs when person is the victim of this deadly virus .

-People with weak immunity or over the age of 60 may be more at risk to the attack of the virus.

 Prevention from NIV

There is no vaccination has been discovered against this deadly virus so far.

 Doctors usually prescribe painkillers to the patients diagnosed with NVW infection. Worth mention here there was a West Nile Virus infection outburst in the United States last year. Due to this infection almost 2000 people became victim, while 121 were dead.
