The union government reacted to the petition filed by children of the army personnel, by filing a report to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).

The central government said that withdrawal of FIR against the stone-pelters would demoralise the army and would also somewhere encourage the militants to get more of the civilians involved in the act.

The report said, "withdrawing of cases against stone-pelters by the state government will demoralise the security forces and may encourage the acts of militants to take help of civilians as their shield for terror activities".

Previously, in February, the PDP-BJP government, led by Mehbooba Mufti applied for the withdrawal of FIRs against 10,000 people who were involved in stone-pelting.

To this, the children of two serving and a retired army personnel, Preeti, Kajal and Prabhav, objected.

The children filed a petition, which said, "Do personnel of armed forces, facing grave and serious violations of human rights, not deserve the attention and empathy of the custodians of human rights? As young Indians and citizens of this great country, especially as children of army personnel, we are concerned about the state of affairs of the troops serving in disturbed areas".

They also requested the NHRC to take sincere action against the stone-pelters and protect the human rights of the army against violation.
