London [United Kingdom], Aug 2 (NT): The Indian hockey eves will cross the swards with Ireland in the quarter-final match of the ongoing World Cup here on Thursday.

Indian women set on avenging the group stage loss they suffered on July 26 against Ireland.

Talking about past records, Indian eves last played in a quarter-final encounter 40 years ago in the 1978 Madrid Women's World Cup. On the other hand the semi-final appearance in the opening edition of the World Cup in 1974 remains India women's best performance in the glorious history of the high-status event.

However, these past stats would not affect the team's enthusiasm when they lock the horns with the Irish side on Thursday according to team captain Rani.

"All I know is, we are not done yet. Our best hockey is yet to come," she was quoted by ANI. She added that the only thing on their minds would be to get even their narrow 0-1 defeat to Ireland in the Pool Stage and secure a birth in the semi-final against the winners of the other quarter-final clash between Spain and Germany.

She further said that however Indian women lost against Ireland in the Pool Stage, we know we played actually well that day but Indian side did not put the ball in the goal. Now India have a golden opportunity to defeat Ireland in the quarter final.
