World Wildlife Day 2018: Predators under threat
World Wildlife Day 2018: Predators under threat
Share:

This world wildlife day (March 3), focuses on the preservation of large felines like a lion, tiger, leopard and jaguar (fourth largest wild cats that can roar), cheetah, snow leopard, puma and clouded leopard.
Today we are celebrating this day on the theme of “Big cats: predators under threat”.
Big cats are among the most popular and adorable predators globally. But today they are in danger and due to our self-interest, there is a disturbing decline in the rate of habitats in these animals. For example, tiger populations decreased by 95% over the past 100 years and African lion populations dropped by 40% in just 20 years.
Over the past centuries due to this loss may be our next generations will see these amazing predators in snapshots only.

History:
World Wildlife Day takes place each year on March 3 and focusses to save the wildlife on earth. The date to celebrate wildlife was adopted on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) of Thailand, in 1973.

Themes on which Cites are working from last three years are
2017: The 2017 theme is "Listen to the young voices"
2016: The 2016 theme is "The future of wildlife is in our hands", with a sub-theme "The future of elephants is in our hands"
2015: The 2015 theme is "It’s time to get serious about wildlife crime"
and this year they have come up with a theme "Big cats: predators under threat”.

The goal of World Wildlife Day is to celebrate the many beautiful and varied forms of the wildlife. To raise awareness of the urgent need to step up the fight against wildlife crime, which has wide-ranging economic, environmental and social impacts.
