On the fifth day of Navaratri, the fifth form of Goddess Durga is worshiped. The day 5 is dedicated to Goddess Skanda Mata. The Goddess is named Skand Mata due to being the mother of Skand Kumar Karthikeya. 

Lord Karthikeya sits in the lap of Skand Mata. There are four arms of Skandamata, of which the mother has hold lotus flower in her two hands. One of her arms is rising upward so that she blesses her devotees and with one hand she has held his son Skanda sitting in her lap. Skand Mata sits on the lotus flower. 

That is why she is also known by the name of Padmasana. The lion is her vehicle. 

Mother removes every difficulty: In the scriptures, the importance of the worship of Mother Skandmata has been shown to be of great importance. By worshiping her, all the wishes of the devotee are fulfilled. The devotee gets salvation. Due to being the goddess of the solar system, her worshiper becomes superhuman and successful. The devotees of Skand Mata never face problem in their life. 

Goddess of affection: Karthikeya is known as the commander of the Gods and mother has the great love for her son Skanda. When the tyranny of monsters increases on earth, the mother destroys the wicked by riding on the lion to protect her devotees. How to worship: On the Panchami date, Bhagavati Durga should offer the banana at the time of worshipping and it should be given to the Brahmin. By doing so, human intelligence develops. Mantra to chant: The vehicle of Mother Skandmata is the lion. 

Mother is worshiped with the chanting of this mantra: 

 Sinhasanganata Nitya Padma Ashramkar Shubhadastu Sada Devi Scandamata Yashaswini 
सिंहासनगता नित्यं पद्माश्रितकरद्वया। शुभदास्तु सदा देवी स्कन्दमाता यशस्विनी॥ 

                                                      Or 

Skandmata Rupkan Samiti. Namastasi Naamshasai Namastasi Naamo Namah 
या देवी सर्वभू‍तेषु माँ स्कन्दमाता रूपेण संस्थिता। नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नम:।।
