Allahabad is going to host ‘Kumbh Mela’ next year but it is most likely to welcome the guest with a new name. UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced that very soon Allahabad district will be renamed Prayagraj.

A few days ago several names of the cities and roads were changed to the name of Atal ji in many other states, including Uttar Pradesh, to pay homage to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Now the name of Allahabad, one of the main cities of Uttar Pradesh, is also going to change before ‘Kumbh Mela’.

CM Yogi has reached Allahabad's two-day tour to take review the preparations for the forthcoming Kumbh Mela of 2019. During this, while addressing the public, he said that Allahabad has two holy rivers Ganga and Yamuna. Accordingly, all Prayags have the rule, therefore I think Allahabad should also be called Prayagraj. CM Yogi further said that if all of you are agree with me, then we will change the name of Allahabad to Prayagraj.

Chief Minister Yogi also spoke about the preparations of Kumbh Mela and said all pending work and projects in the district will be completed by December.Kumbh Mela will begin in Allahabad on January 15, 2019.
