The police are assuming that the deceased was crossing the railway line while he was hit by an oncoming train. However, the family of the deceased wants the police to investigate the matter as they suspect foul play. According to them, the route to his coaching center would not have required Rohit to cross the railway crossing. The family claimed that there were no signs of stress in his life. "My son won the title of Mr. Delhi twice and also won competitions in Haryana. Recently he was preparing for the Asian bodybuilding championship", says Om Prakash Dubey, the father of Rohit.

A senior police officer from Preet Vihar police station, who is probing the matter, stated that the railway crossing was close to the victim's house and prima facie he seems to have been run over while crossing the railway tracks. They further added that the officials rushed to the spot as soon as they were informed about the incident. Furthermore, the victim's mobile phone was recovered from the spot and before his death, he seems to have had a nearly 30-minute-long phone conversation with his father.
