Washington: A surprising case has emerged from Illinois, USA. A woman living here has beaten her own son to death. In Illinois, a woman has been sentenced for 35 years for exploiting her child physically and mentally for several years and beating him to death.
In December last year, Joanne Cunningham admitted her crime of killing her five-year-old son Andrews. Police found the body of the child wrapped in plastic near the woman's house eight months ago, which was hidden by digging a pit inside the ground. McHenry County Justice Robert Billbrandt sentenced the woman to 35 years in prison on Friday.
Cunningham on Thursday had pleaded for mercy with the court, stating that she was a very dear mother to her child who misses her son a lot. Cunningham could have been sentenced to 20 to 60 years in prison for her crime. The court noted that the woman was addicted to drugs, but also said, "Her drug addiction cannot justify her horrific behavior towards her own son." Andrews's father also accused of murder, but he declares himself innocent and further decisions of this case are pending now.
