Congo: At least 12 people were reported injured in a bomb blast in a market in eastern Congo on Wednesday. According to local official Tharsis Ketembo, the town of Beni in North Kivu was the scene of a bombing carried out by an unknown person.

Damage was recorded, and 12 or more people suffered injuries. He told reporters in Beni that he suffered injuries to the lower limbs, injuries to the upper limbs and injuries to the head. According to Katembo, the victims were taken to the hospital and the matter is being investigated.

No one claimed ownership of the bomb. However, according to the United Nations, attacks in North Kivu are increasing as a result of pro-democracy forces believed to be affiliated with the Islamic State extremist movement.

At least 14 people were killed and several others wounded in an attack on a church in the city of Kasindi earlier this month, which was claimed by the Islamic State.

In his Amak news outlet, he claimed to have buried an explosive device inside the church and set it off while worshipers were in meditation.

At least 370 civilians have died as a result of Allied Democratic Forces attacks since April, and the UN claims hundreds more have been abducted, many of them children. According to eyewitnesses, the explosion occurred on Wednesday next to a cassava mill in a local market.

According to an interview with local reporters by The Associated Press, 16-year-old Danny Sieguswa claimed he was riding his motorcycle when a man in a striped shirt put a small bag behind a door and said He'll get to it later. According to Siaghuswa, "less than five minutes after he left" the bomb exploded.

Pictures of the attack being shared on chat groups showed blood-soaked people lying on the ground. A woman was carrying a small child dressed in bloodstained clothes.

Violence has plagued eastern Congo for decades, as more than 120 armed groups and self-defense militias fight for territory and power. According to the United Nations, some 6 million people are internally displaced, and hundreds of thousands suffer from severe food insecurity.
